While they may now be in the ACC, the Cardinals have consistently known when it's time to step up their game, evident by their 14-2 record ATS in their last 16 conference games. Also, the Cardinals are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 road games while the Cavaliers are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Louisville has been very impressive in their first two games this season, especially in their three score victory over the Miami Hurricanes on Labor Day. I look for the Cards to run up another three score victory over Virginia.

Bryce Petty is back for Baylor, and while he wasn't necessarily missed in the game and a half he was out, you can be sure he's itching to get back into a game and make some big plays.

Oregon has a ton of explosive, big play threats but they've traditional struggled against a more physical opponent. That type of play is exactly what Michigan State does best and they'll look to overpower Oregon in the trenches on both sides of the ball. The Spartans have a very good defense with great athletes that will do a better job containing Oregon that most people believe. The Spartans are 16-5-1 ATS in their last 22 road games and 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 games vs. a team with a winning record. The Ducks are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and only 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. This is a huge game on a national level and I think it comes down to which team makes a big play in the 4th quarter.

The Trojans looked good in their opening game, but as they hit the road they'll have some demons to overcome, especially with the mighty Cardinal as their opponent. The Trojans are a winless 0-8 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and only 2-11 ATS in their last 13 road games overall. Stanford has beaten USC five straight times and they're 5-2 ATS over the last 7 meetings. Also, the Cardinal are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 conference games. Stanford wins by a TD as they cover the slim chalk being laid in this one.

Navy just missed covering the number on the road in Columbus last week, as they trailed by only a FG as late as the 4th quarter against the highly ranked Buckeyes. Temple pulled a big upset against Vanderbilt but it wasn't necessarily as dominant as it may appear. The Owls relied on 7 turnovers from Vandy to get the big win. You can bet Navy's ball and tempo control will not give them the same amount of opportunities this week. The Midshipmen are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record and an impressive 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Navy gets into the win column this week as Temple comes back to Earth.

Also, the Wildcats are a very impressive 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 Big 12 games. As everyone knows, the Cyclones are reeling coming off of a bad loss to North Dakota State. They also lost their most explosive player on offense in WR Bundrage. Making up his absence will not be easy and Saturday won't be the day if past trends are any indication as the Cyclones are just 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a winning record.

Toledo is getting a lot of love around the nation as a potential upset pick for Week 2's slate of games. Why? I have no idea. Missouri has too much talent to lose to this squad from Toledo. The Tigers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 11-3-1 ATS in their last 15 games overall, while the Rockets are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Head Coach Gary Pinkel is returning to his former school and you better believe he's going back to win. He'll say all the right things about his opponent to keep his team focused and they'll take care of business. This is a double digit road win for the Tigers Saturday afternoon.

Baylor's explosive offense looks to rev it's engine again in the 2014 season opener. Returning QB Bryce Petty has a lot of weapons at his disposal and the Bears return RB Shock Linwood to aid in a dynamic and balanced attack. The Bears do have a few question marks on the defensive side of the ball, but I don't see that being a problem in this opener against SMU. They have good athletes, it's just going to take some time for them to gel and play as a unit. Take the Bears to win big in their home opener, as they unveil a new stadium this Sunday.

Florida State is on a mission to repeat as National Champions as they open with a good test on the road against Oklahoma State. The Seminoles return 15 starters from last year's undefeated squad so there's no reason to expect a let down and there's nothing to make me believe they won't continue their dominance right where they left off last season. The Cowboys are on the other end of the spectrum as far as returning talent. Okie State has been one of the top 15 programs over the last several seasons, but this will not be that type of season in Stillwater. The Cowboys, and the Big 12 in general, aren't known for their defensive prowess. Throw in the fact that the Noles scored under 40 just twice last year and you have a recipe for a lot of points on the visitor side of the scoreboard Saturday evening. Florida State is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and the Noles are 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 neutral site games. They easily cover as they win going away in their opening game toward a title defense!

Two teams with a lot of positions to fill from last year's teams, but Clemson has the edge behind the strength of the defense that they do return. Laying over a TD is too much to give against a team with a defense as good as the Tigers. I look for a lower-scoring game, that will be back and forth and close throughout. Clemson has played to great success on the road over the last few years, posting an 8-3 record ATS. The Bulldogs, on the other hand, are just 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and only 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall.

The Owls return 6 starters to a defense that was just outside the top 10 in total defense last year. Sure, that wasn't against a schedule of Nebraska's, but you can bet they've worked and waited all Summer for a shot at one of the big boys with their opening test of the year. Besides the statistical returns, the Owls' returnees look to bolster their backers and their 17-5 record ATS in their last 22 games. Also, the Owls boast an 11-3 record ATS in their last 14 non-conference games and a 12-1 record ATS in their last 13 road games. Nebraska has a lot of talent, but still a few too many early season question marks for me to see this getting out of hand. The Owls have a very solid defense and just enough offense to keep them in this game.

Simply put, West Virginia's defense is no match against Alabama's rushing attack. The Mountaineers gave up over 33 ppg game last season, and it may be even uglier this season. Navy's ground and pound, ball control offense always helps keep them in ball games, and they won't be fearful of a top 5 ranked Ohio State team. In fact, I think the Midshipmen go into this game thinking they can pull off an upset as the Buckeye's will still be trying to find their identity with a fresh QB at the helm. Navy returns six of their top 7 rushing leaders from last season, most importantly QB Keenan Reynolds, who scored 31 rushing TD's last season. While Navy returns all of their talent, the Bucks will be looking to unveil their new talent with Braxton Miller injured and Carlos Hyde off to the NFL. While there's no doubt in their talent, it will take some time to mesh and get going with a very young offensive line to boot. The Midshipmen keep themselves in this game, I think it even stays in the single digits.

The Bison will obviously challenge for a fourth straight FCS title, but their string of wins over Division 1 teams comes to an end Saturday morning. The Cyclones return an explosive offense that will be too much for ND State to handle. Iowa State will also be improved on the defensive side of the ball, returning 6 starters that gained a lot of experience even though they struggled to stop Big 12 opponents last season. The Cyclones win by a couple scores, 34-21.

Washington State returns a great deal from an offense that had a lot of success last year, highlighted by record setting QB Connor Halliday The Cougars look to build upon a 10-4 record ATS over their last 14 games, including a 3-1-1 record in non-conference games. The area that the Cougars need to show improvement is on the defensive side of the ball, and while they won't be garnering any attention on a national scale, they will be good enough to slow down a bad Rutgers offense. Although the Cougars don't necessarily have a home field advantage, they have a decided edge over Rutgers traveling across country. Look for Washington State to run up a lot of points and send the Scarlet Knights on a long, long trip back east with their first of many losses this season.
