Black’s 2009 Super Bowl Picks

The Cardinals have had a dream season, continuing through the postseason, but when they run into the defense of the Steelers they won’t know what hit them and it will all quickly turn into a nightmare.  Kurt Warner is a very accurate QB if he has time and can make his reads downfield.  Unfortunately, for the future Hall of Famer, he won’t have that luxury in this trip to the Super Bowl as the blitzing style of Mike Tomlin’s defense will have Warner uncomfortable, scrambling around and out of the pocket all night long.  The Steelers are 6-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall.  Also, the Steelers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 playoff games as a favorite and 7-0 ATS in their last 7 playoff games overall.

Both teams show strong trends for the over in this years’ Super Bowl.  For the Cards, the over is 38-13 in their last 51 games as an underdog and it’s also 35-16 in the Cardinals’ last 51 games overall.  For the Steelers, we see the over is 7-1 in their last 8 playoff games as a favorite and 12-2 in Steelers’ last 14 playoff games overall.  Look for big plays on offense, defense and special teams to put points on the board in this years big one.
