Rating: 2 Units UCF held Grambling State to a season-low 29.3 percent shooting from the field, including a paltry 22.9 percent after intermission. That kind of suffocating defense has been the story at UCF since third-year coach Johnny Dawkins took over and the Knights are harassing opposing shooters into hitting 36.7 percent of their shots this season (11th best in the country) en route to 60.8 points per game. No doubt, Georgia Southern expects to challenge that dominance with a high-scoring offense that ranks No. 1 in the nation in field goal percentage (52.7) and 10th in scoring (88.5 points)

Rating: 3 Unit NCAAB Play of the Day Even with Mike Watkins (personal) returning to the Nittany Lion lineup for at least limited minutes, the Hokies are a tough match up. Virginia Tech has some size in Kerry Blackshear, but the perimeter is loaded and feisty. Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Justin Robinson and Ahmed Hill are hitting at least 40% of their 3-pointers and Hill is knocking down 56% of his long-range shots. This is the Hokies’ first road test and it will help to have an experienced crew heading to College Station.

Golden State hosted the Kings Saturday, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant combining for 75 points and Thompson tipped in the game winner. The Warriors would love to get this game with a 5-game trip on the horizon, book ended by Toronto and Milwaukee. Jordan Bell has earned some minutes and he does a little bit of everything when he is in the game. Quinn Cook has done a nice job in the absence of Steph Curry and when Coach Kerr brings in Shawn Livingston he gets a big guard that can post up small forwards

Rating: 2 Units Miami is coming off a win but it was against Chicago. They got great production from the center position as Hassan Whiteside and Bam Adebayo combined for 32 and 23 boards. That will be hard to duplicate against the Canadians as Coach Nurse has been experimenting with Serge Ibaka and Jonas Valanciunas in the middle and both of those players will give the Miami big men trouble. The Raptors are coming off a successful trip. They lost the first game on the journey in overtime to Boston but reeled off 4 in a row, the last on Friday in D.C. One of the best things Toronto has going for them is the balanced attack. They are 7th in allowing points and only three clubs opened the season scoring more points a night.

They are in the top 10 in getting to the free-throw line and they are 4th in free-throw percentage. Teams can’t cheat on the Wolves either since they started the season hitting at 37% from distance, 4th in the league. As promising a career that Wendall Carter Jr. may have for the Bulls, he will have his plate full guarding Karl-Anthony Towns because the Minnesota center can stretch the floor. Rating: 2 Units The Bluejays seem somewhat out of sync to start the season. After three ACL surgeries in his young life, Martin Krampelj does not look healthy and the team does not have a scoring option that it can rely. The same can not be said for the Panthers, who have presumptive Sun Belt Player of the Year D’Marcus Simonds (23.0 points per game, 25 points against St. Bonaventure on Monday). Jeff Thomas gives coach Ron Hunter an excellent wing man. You’ll be seeing the Panthers in March.

Rating: 3 Unit NBA Play of the Day Look for Denver to try to get shooters in the corner open vs. the Bucks. Milwaukee is in the bottom half of the league in defending the 3-point line. Denver was in a bit of a funk and then they beat the Hawks before this trip started. When they lost to the Bucks 8 nights ago, Gary Harris had an off game going just 5 for 14. That was a mirage. Harris shot 50% from the floor and 49% from the field last season. They were in the Big Easy on Saturday and in that game Denver had one bad 12-minute stretch and it cost them. The Nuggets figure to be sky high to beat the hot Bucks and this season they have already knocked off the champs and Boston and the 10-5 Clippers.
